WANDERING MIND

One Hot Month

August is finally here, and none too soon.  Although, I do not feel like we have slowed down.  In fact, I feel more like we are ramping back up.  Our summer has been fast and furious, and especially July.  I believe this has been the single busiest month of our time together.  While I have probably had more to do in any given month, this one has been project after project, along with trying new things.  So what all have we done?

Well…(deep breath)… we engaged in a five week series that centered on crossroads while inviting Austin Dellamano to be an artist-in-residence during these services.  We welcomed and worshipped with visitors from Malawi, Africa.  We had several Sundays of lunch, fellowship, and games.  We supported Lauren Carter’s efforts to raise funds for the nursery remodel through a trivia night.  We enjoyed fellowshipping at the home of the Kunz’s.  Several families met to support Faith In Action.  4 youth began their confirmation journey.  We had a rummage sale and a Thrift Shop sale.  And then we really bumped up the action.  The window blinds project is nearly complete, the mural in the meeting room is now framed, one of the refrigerators has been repaired, electrical was run and a new rooftop unit was installed to restore air conditioning to the basement, and a massive reorganization of the Thrift Shop was undertaken. Then we started Vacation Bible School.  Oh, by the way, we still had to do all the normal day to day stuff as well.  (I am surprised that Alice and Debbie are still willing to come into the office.)

It was hot outside and we were hot inside getting so much done.  We continue to transform our building while we are working on transforming ourselves.  There is much work still to be done, but we have made great strides in reimaging what we can be on our corner of Collinsville.  I look forward to our continued discussions of what we may become.

Thank you to all who have been involved in these and so many other projects.  It is by our sharing our resources and talents that we demonstrate the strength of community and communal life.

Blessings to you all in our journey,

Pastor Jeff

ONE OTHER THING

Preparing for the School Year

As we get ready to send our children back to school, we are also preparing for their Christian Education.  I would like to invite each of you to consider being a teacher for one our classes even it is just one week.  We are not asking for a full year commitment, but a commitment of several weeks, one month, or any other availability you may have.  We appreciate all of our teachers and would like to support our children with as many as possible.

We currently have three classes for children and youth: pre-K through 4th grade; Middle School (5th through 8th grade); and High School (9th-12th grade).  We are preparing for one adult class, but are interested in providing two different courses.  Our nursery will also begin a curriculum for the youngest of our church.  At the same time, I encourage you to consider volunteering as a leader with Children’s Church.  This is another great opportunity to help guide our children, and for many adults to share the load of teaching and leading.

 Thank You,

Pastor Jeff
