WANDERING MIND

Hard Lifting

There are those times when words simply do not flow.  Each letter it seems is a heavy weight to be moved in place.  The process might as well be the same thing as moving a pile of bricks from one side of the yard to other only to start over and do it again.  Yet, it still has its merit.  In the case of the bricks we may learn after many attempts that there is a better way of moving the bricks, or we may find a better way of stacking the bricks, and we may find new muscle growth with strength we had not before imagined.  In the case of writing we may find a better understanding of our needed attitude and environment in which to write, or develop a plan to better organize our schedule, and we may find a stronger understanding of our language skills.

The reading of Scripture holds a similar reality.  It is often difficult, and heavy, and cumbersome, and drawn out, and arduous, and repetitive.  However, it is in continuous reading and study that we begin to develop our spiritual muscles and skills.  In addition, we gain a better understanding of God’s plan of salvation.  When we are willing to put in the time and effort, the payoff is a fuller connection to Jesus Christ.  This is also true of our time spent together in Bible Study, and Christian Education, and Spiritual Development, and even in our own writings of faith.

I am still not sure what my new evening program will be this Fall, but I know that it will be another opportunity to work on and flex our spiritual muscles.  Please consider joining us for this and for our Sunday morning Christian Education.

Blessings to you all in our journey,

Pastor Jeff

THANK YOU
Dear Church Family,
Thank you so much for everyone who attended the trivia night I hosted for my Gold Award project. Your support has been overwhelming.  I appreciate all that donated items for the silent auction, the bake sale as well as those who just donated to the cause.  My project is coming along and I  should have hopefully completed by sometime in early October.
Sincrely, Lauren Carter

Thank you so much to all who made this year's Bible School such a great success.  Our "greats" had a wonderful time and were so anxious to be there.  I know from experience how much time, effort, and patience it takes to do this and you all did such a splendid job. Especially thanks to Ashley, "the planner". God bless you all. Thilerna French

To FUPC Youth Group
We are so grateful for your donations of fresh baked cookies for the August 4th S.O.S. Soup Kitchen meal.  We could not help the families of the Collinsville area without support like yours.
Dana Callahan, Spirit of Sharing (S.O.S.) Soup Kitchen

T0 Our Church Family -
Thank you to everyone for making our guests from Malawi, Rev. Chimwemwe & Linda, feel so welcome and for responding to them in such a warm way.  Thank you to Pastor Jeff for allowing them to be a part of the church service.  And thanks to  all for  the food you bright and shared for the dinner afterward.
Blessing to all, Janet & Calvin Butts

My Dear Church Family -
There are no words that can express my thanks for all you did during Johnny's passing.  He would want each of you to know how over-whelmed he was at wrapping his family with your love.  The prayers, hugs, taers, food and general ont-pouring of love was so comforting.

I will miss his physical presence every day but know where his spirit lives and that will fill my heart all up.

He came to church for me but what he received from all of you, became for him.

Much love, Sherri Finke

I would like to thank my church family for cards and prayers during my hip surgery.  Also, I would like to thank Pastor Jeff for his concerns, calls, and visits to the hospital.  I had so much support from you all.  Thank you!! Jo Kunz

SESSION NOTES

A combined meeting of the Session and Committees was held on Tuesday., August 9.  During this meeting carpeting for the Nursery was discussed and because of the interest in this part of the project that Lauren Carter is doing for her Gold Award, it was voted to table the discussion until the Session could meet.  The meeting then went to the individual committees for their discussion on the committees projects and ideas.

A called Session meeting was held on Friday, August 19 for discussion on a request by Sherri Finke and John’s mother (Sharon) about giving Baptism to John Finke while he was in the ICU.  The members of the meeting and those who could not attend unanimously voted to have Pastor Jeff perform this Baptism.  Representing our church were Pastor Jeff, Jo Kunz (Deacons), Janet Butts (Elders) and Jodee Kleb (Clerk of Session). Sherri and John’s sister were also present.

Sadly for our church and congregation, John Paul Finke became one of Heavens newest arrivals.  Our thoughts and Prayers go to Sherri, Sharon Finke and his family.

The Presbytery will have their meeting at our Church on Thursday, September 1.
