A few Sundays ago I laid bare some of the struggles that I have during my sermon, “I Am Not Your Pastor”.  While it was not a complete list (as I tried to respect your time), it certainly gave you some insight into my mind, and hence the moniker of my monthly article.  I want to say thank you for taking that journey with me.

Now, on to this month’s important stuff.  This coming Sunday I will begin a sermon series entitled “Belonging” that will focus on the responsibilities of membership in the church as outlined in the Book of Order, which are scripturally based, and address what it means to live into Christ and the Baptism which we have received.  I hope you will join me, as well as invite those you know, in exploring how we together become greater than what we are on our own.  We will be looking at our call to “be faithful disciples” (of which some may be growing tired of hearing me say) and live lives that have new meaning and purpose.  We will examine how we can do this not only in the church, but in our homes, in our work, and in our greater community.

The Visioning Commission has been formed.  I will be leading this group in an exploration of what we want to become and how we will be getting there.  Already we have made immense strides as we continue to work on our leadership model, as well as beginning to focus on how we outwardly engage in mission for the community.  Again, I want to thank you for struggling through these changes.

Matt Bader and the Nominating Committee will soon be looking for a new group of elders and deacons.  I ask that you prayerfully consider your willingness to serve your church through time and talent in these important leadership roles.  One of my goals is to ensure that every single member of our church is ordained as an elder, or deacon, or both.

The Fall Family Fun Fest is Tuesday this week.  Come and celebrate our church family, and learn about some of the committees and work of the church.  Once again, this is a great time to invite friends and family, and to invite anyone you may know to come and join in the fun and be introduced to the life of the church.

Continue to grow daily in your faith.  Walk with the Lord Jesus in all you do.  Read and study the Scriptures.  Pray.  Do these with your friends and family.  Make time each day for even the smallest practice of faith development.

In all you do may you know the Living Lord, Jesus Christ!
